About the Photographer
Hi, I’m David J. Martin, the photographer. Welcome to my website.
I’ve been photographing professionally in New York City for over 15 years and have photographed just about everything: puppies, weddings, house parties, company events, and red carpet galas. I’ve even been hired to shoot inanimate objects like cars and coffee mugs. No job has been too big or too small. I’ve produced thousands of images and I'm fortunate to make a living doing what I love.
I’ve been able to integrate my former careers into being a professional photographer. For example, working in the travel industry both as a hotel front desk clerk in Hawaii and as an international flight attendant has given me the experience of working with people from all walks of life. In another chapter of my life, I worked as a visual merchandiser creating store displays where knowing my lighting and colors schemes come in handy today. As a former clothing stylist, I’m able to let you know what to wear and what would work best for the look(s) you’re aiming to achieve.
Photographing “everyday people” has been my expertise. Shooting professional models is something most anyone can do with their camera phone but there’s a special skill-set needed to capture people who aren’t necessarily comfortable in front of the camera. If only I had a dime for everytime I’ve heard “I’m not very photogenic”. To which I replied “you’ve just had the wrong photographer.”
If you’re looking to get an updated, professional, and approachable headshot, I will feature your strengths and hide your flaws in the shadows within the realm of what's humanly possible. lol. If my lighting and digital photography equipment don’t do the trick, then there’s always PhotoShop! I’m been called a genius and a saint regarding my retouching skills. I’ll take it. The trick to photographing and enhancing portraits is to do it realistically and subtly. No one wants to get busted for having an over edited photo. I’ll have you looking the best version of yourself. It’s one of the reasons why people come back to me as repeat clients.
Most likely, you’re doing an online search, looking for the right photographer. I’m your man!
